Premium Collision Repair Software |
Paul Smith, owner of Midland Smash Repairs and Collision 1 – the recipient of the 'Best New Shop Australia' accolade by Paint Paneling Magazine in 2022 – identified a gap in the market for software that would meet the demands of operating in auto body repair facilities. This led to his development of 1Q1 Bodyshop Flow Management system in 2015; a cloud-based solution tailored to enhance the efficiency and management of bodyshop operations.
In 2017 the innovative nature of 1Q1 was recognised with the Paint and Panel Magazine's Innovation Award, as it was the pioneering processing platform to streamline operations throughout a bodyshop. It improved visibility and established a hierarchy of tasks for employees across various departments, leading to substantial growth in both turnover and gross profit for the early adopters. |
Building upon this success, Paul Smith and his team expanded their collision repair software suite to include solutions for estimating, parts pricing and ordering, aiming to replicate the positive outcomes generated by the 1Q1 - Flow Management system. These new additions were named 1Q2 - Estimating and 1Q3 - Parts Platform, culminating in the comprehensive 1QX - Premium Collision Repair Software, providing an end-to-end management solution for bodyshops.
The benefits that the 1QX system had on Paul’s bodyshops was immense. So much so, it allowed him and his son Lachlan to step away from the businesses altogether; releasing every aspect to their staff while simultaneously achieving results in turnover, gross profit and insurer customer satisfaction results.
The menu-based structure of the 1Q2 Estimating system played a pivotal role in seamlessly integrating and upskilling diverse workforce members into the estimating process. The lack of manual input and time-wasting data entry requirements, Paul and Lachlan were able to train a new member of staff employed from overseas (with no prior experience in the Australian automotive or insurance industries) to master the process of creating 60 extensive and accurate estimates a week - all within a mere three-week timeframe.
Furthermore, this process was replicated with one of their spray painters from the shop floor who could then be reassigned to the role of an estimator. Despite the painter's lack of experience in this domain, the systems user-friendliness enabled a similar acceleration in competency. Within the same three-week period, the individual matched performance levels, delivering 60 estimates weekly.
